ART Grand Prix driver Jules Bianchi secured his second win of the 2009 F3 Euroseries in wet conditions at the Norisring last weekend, but instead of having time to savour his victory, the young Frenchman was accosted by one of his rivals instead!
After receiving the accolades from his German fans on the rostrum on Saturday afternoon, Jules was making his way down from the top step when he was punched in the face by Stefano Coletti, a result of which saw him pay a visit to the circuit’s medical team.
Coletti was then excluded from the entire race weekend for infringing the Code of Honour of the F3 Euro Series that every driver must respect, and his attack on the ART GP driver didn’t end there with various press columns spouting the incorrect version of events.
Whilst Jules was happy enough to forgive his colleague after the physical attack and forget the entire ordeal, now he needs to let everyone know the truth of the matter...
“After we were handed our trophies, I went to congratulate Coletti for his podium finish but he responded by telling me that I was lucky to win. I did not understand his resentment because I dominated the entire race and I told him that he should not be jealous and that the championship was not designed for him to win every race. We raised our voices Justas in any argument and Coletti suddenly hit me in the face.”
“My jaw was sore as a result and I went to the medical centre. I then received an SMS from Coletti asking me to talk about it again, that it was stupid to fight as we have known each other for a long time. I was happy enough with the final situation until I read his version of the incident in the foreign press. It is a bunch of lies and defamation that I can’t accept!”
“Yes, we said some heated comments and he was not sparing with his remarks! But I never insulted his family. I respect family far too much to have such a bad attitude and he knows it. His attitude was so unspeakable that I could not miss the obvious and it was very personal. The truth will out eventually and that is just what I want. The incident happened in front of witnesses, I did not provoke him, and I did not push him. He was the one who was penalized. I have never displayed unsportsmanlike behaviour.” |
