F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed that any of the thirteen teams registered to take part in the rapidly approaching 2010 Formula One championship season can miss up to three races and not face any penalties, however there could be a problem if more than five teams choose to do so at one event.
It appears as if the newly signed Concorde Agreement has a provision that teams can miss up to three rounds if they are financially unable to attend, and according to Ecclestone, Campos and USF1 may take advantage of this and not appear for the first three rounds as they attempt to secure further sponsorship.
“I think we won’t see Campos and I don’t think we will see the Americans,” he said in the Express.
As part of the contract Formula One has with the majority of circuits worldwide, a minimum of eight teams must take part in the weekend, however with teams turning up one weekend and not the next, it won’t take long before fans lose patience and start switching off, again. |
