It was a disappointing qualifying session for the Renault F1 Team at Yas Marina this evening as Fernando Alonso and Romain Grosjean both failed to make it out of the first twenty minute qualifying session.
Alonso, in his final race for the French based squad, found himself down in a very disappointing 16th place when the chequered flag fell at the end of the first twenty minute session because he simply wasn’t quick enough.
“It was disappointing for us to be out after Q1 as obviously I would have liked to qualify higher up the grid,” he said. “Although the team have done their best to prepare the car, it just wasn't quick enough to set a better time this afternoon. Tomorrow I will do all I can to get the best result possible in my last race with Renault."
Meanwhile, rookie teammate Romain Grosjean had an even more difficult experience in the setting sun and ended hi day on the final row for tomorrow’s race with only the second slowest time...
“It was a difficult qualifying session today,” he said. “We were missing performance but we still hoped to make it through to at least into Q2. We have done as much as we could, but sadly we were out in Q1. For tomorrow, it's important not to make any mistakes and to finish as high as possible." |
