Although it won’t be made official until a meeting of the world council next week, it appears as of the teams have made yet another change to the already controversial points system in Formula One.
Speaking about the new format at the launch of his Mercedes Grand prix team’s new 2010 livery yesterday, Ross Brawn explained that there has been a few minor modifications to the system that was only granted approval in December.
The initial change saw the points system go from 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 to 25, 20, 15, 10, 8, 6, 5, 3, 2 and 1. However, teams have now decided to give the race winner an even greater winning margin by changing the second placed drivers to 18 instead of 20, a seven point gap with the following system... 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1.
"I think there is some tuning of the middle range of the points system," Brawn was quoted as saying. "There was a bit of a disparity in the gaps. It has to be ratified by the F1 commission but that's the proposal." |
