When the F1 circus pulled up stakes at the recent French Grand Prix, it was on the assumption that they wouldn’t be returning to the country after Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone decided that the Magny Cours circuit would not be hosting another round in the future. Now, after meeting with the French Prime Minister and the Minister of Health Youth and Sport, it looks as if the oldest race on the calendar has been given a reprieve.
Reports emerging from France indicate that Magny Cours will remain on the agenda for the next two years at least and while there is an option to continue for additional years, the thought is that the French government will look at hosting the event at a different venue in order to help cut costs in the long term.
Ecclestone had hoped to organize a grand prix through the streets of Paris, however it appears as if this is not a viable option… |
