While their colleagues remained in the Middle East for the second half of their final intense testing session ahead of the season opening Australian Grand Prix, the Williams and SpykerF1 teams took to the Circuit de Catalunya on the outskirts of Barcelona Spain for their final pre season session.
Williams racer Nico Rosberg set the fastest time of the day, the young German racer completing a total of 105 laps to finish almost eight tenths ahead of his teammate, Alex Wurz.
"Nico tested the Melbourne aero upgrade today and then spent the rest of the session carrying out long run,” explained Dickie Stanford, Williams Test Team Manager. “He completed a full race distance, together with pit stops and refuelling. Alex, meanwhile, worked on mapping and set-up tests. Both Nico and Alex will continue here tomorrow in preparation for Australia."
Spyker had four drivers on track, their two regular racers and two test drivers, Fairuz Fauzy and Giedo van der Garde, who finished twelve seconds off the pace after just four laps.
"Giedo van der Garde and Fairuz Fauzy took over in the afternoon and while Fairuz did a full race simulation without problems, Giedo's mileage was limited following a precautionary engine change early on. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the mechanics, he could only complete installation checks,” explained Mike Gascoyne.
