British American Racing driver Jenson Button, recorded the best time of the day during the third day of action at the Catalunya circuit today, the young Brit recording a 1:14.111 behind the wheel of a V10 powerplant. The Japanese engine manufacturer, Honda, has been checking the mistakes made in 2005 that prevented them from accomplishing expectations.
Meanwhile, test driver Anthony Davidson was hard at work on the new V8, finishing tenth overall, over five seconds behind Button on the Brackley based squad’s first day of work here.
Renault also began their testing program with a V10 in their two cars here today with test driver Franck Montagny second fastest overall with a 1:15.848. Young Argentinean from the GP2 series, José María López, was also in action for the French based squad finishing seventh overall.
Toyota is busy testing with the first version of the TF106 and Bridgestone tyres and Jarno Trulli set the third best time today (1:17.019), the fastest V8 of the week at this stage. Teammate and test driver Ricardo Zonta followed him home with the fourth best time of 1:17.440.
Nick Heidfeld’s BMW-Sauber was fifth with 1:17.559.
David Coulthard started testing for Red Bull, which is still working with Cosworth V10 engines complete with new software while they wait for the new Ferrari engines to arrive in January. The Scottish driver was sixth, while teammate Christian Klien was eighth.
Both Williams racers, mark Webber and Nico Rosberg, finished at the bottom of the timesheets.
