Day three at the Catalunya circuit in Barcelona saw Ferrari continue their dominance as official test driver Luca Badoer set the fastest time of the day after a total of 88 laps of the Spanish track.
Joined by fellow tester marc Gene, who clocked the sixth best time overall, the boys from Maranello continued work started here on Tuesday that was centred around endurance running, experimentation with new components and working on finding the best set-up on the 248 F1.
Second for the day was Renault’s new driver Heikki Kovalainen with BMW’s Robert Kubica in third. The Hinwil based squad put GP2 racer Timo Glock through his paces here today and the former Jordan driver completed 105 laps to finish ninth overall.
Lewis Hamilton had a better day, the young Brit finishing fourth overall, but while he pounded the pavement 87 times, all eyes were on Mika Hakkinen, who made his F1 return for the team here today. While his pace didn’t set the track on fire, his best overall time three seconds off the pace, Mika had a productive day and enjoyed every minute of it!
Testing will resume in Jerez next week.
