Barcelona: Day two – Massa finishes on top again

Ferrari driver Felipe Massa was the fastest man on the Catalunya circuit again today, the young Brazilian racer almost eight tenths faster than his nearest rival, BMW’s Nick Heidfeld. Felipe was joined by the Maranello based squad’s official test driver, Luca Badoer, who finished third overall as both drivers continued with the program started here yesterday, consisting of long run tests, experimentation with new components and working on the set-up of the 248 F1.

Fourth up for the day was McLaren’s Pedro de la Rosa who was once again joined by the team’s new driver for 07, Lewis Hamilton, who finished sixth overall for his second day of testing. Both drivers continued with the Bridgestone Potenza assessment work alongside ongoing evaluation of the brakes and the aerodynamic programme. Running was limited in the morning after rain left the track conditions unsuitable for the dry Bridgestone tyres.

Unfortunately, Lewis suffered a mechanical failure on his right rear wheel assembly, which caused him to stop out on track. Lewis then spent some time in the garage in the afternoon as the team changed set-ups as part of the scheduled evaluation process, before the Brit returned to the track to continue his program.

Panasonic Toyota Racing joined in today’s activities and tomorrow a very familiar face will return to action when double world champion, Mika Hakkinen joins McLaren for their third day of testing.
