Regular BMW Williams test driver Antonio Pizzonia was sidelined for this week’s test at the Jerez circuit in Southern Spain, the Brazilian racer spraining his ankle after slipping on the stairs whilst in China with the team last week.
Therefore, Olivier Beretta, who has tested intermittently for the Grove based squad since 2002 was called upon to help carry out this weeks three day session. Olivier concentrated on testing different cooling configurations throughout the day and completed a total of 87 laps for a best time of 1:18.982.
"Olivier Beretta ran the second FW26 today, replacing Antonio Pizzonia who has been sidelined due to an ankle injury sustained while in China,” said Tim Newton. “Despite coming in at extremely late notice, Olivier did a very good job today, completing 87 laps of various aero measurements and traction control work.”
Also on duty was regular tester Marc Gene who concentrated on set-up work and tyre tests with partners at Michelin. The Spaniard completed a total of 30 laps after suffering technical issues, with a best time of 1:17.695
“Marc, unfortunately, didn't have such a good day as a few minor technical problems restricted his lap times,” explained Newton. “He should, however, be able to go better tomorrow.”
Testing continues on Wednesday, with Ralf Schumacher joining Marc.
