In the second year of its existence, the BMW Sauber F1 Team has established itself as the third power on the Formula One grid: Two podium finishes and plenty of points were recorded in 17 exciting races. Due to the exclusion of a competitor, the team ranks second place in the 2007 Constructors’ Championship.
"We are very happy with our second season and can be justly proud of our achievements - no matter if it comes to our design and development work executed in the off-season or to our development pace during the season. In our first two seasons we have realised our ambitious goals," says BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen. "I would like to thank the drivers and the whole team."
The record of success of the BMW Sauber F1 Team is impressive. In all of the 17 season races at least one of the team drivers was able to collect world championship points, on nine occasions Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica both finished among the top-8. In Canada Nick achieved the best individual result of the team so far by claiming second place, and in Hungary he added another podium result crossing the line in third position.
During the course of the season, the BMW Sauber F1 Team developed a special relationship to fourth place. Nick and Robert took the chequered flag running in this position no less than eight times this year. While this result is commonly cause for disappointment in the world of sports – as it’s the first spot outside of the top-3 - fourth place evolved into a positive symbol for the BMW Sauber F1 Team this year: At the wheel of their BMW Sauber F1.07 cars, Nick and Robert were not only able to consistently challenge the top teams but even managed to leave at least one of the favourites behind on several occasions.
A satisfying year lies behind the BMW Sauber F1 Team and the foundation for future success has been laid. |
