BMW looking at Sauber purchase?
Speculation in the German press indicates that instead of just supplying Sauber with engines in the 2006 Formula One season, BMW are actually considering purchasing the Swiss based squad from Peter Sauber and becoming their own force on the Formula One grid. Speaking to Focus FIA President Max Mosley confirmed that the German engine manufacturer has three available options and the one involving the purchase of the Sauber squad wouldn’t come as any surprise to him. It wasn’t that long ago that Mosley hinted another team was up for sale and this news basically confirms his earlier comments. "If there's a disappointment from Williams, which BMW has, there are three possibilities,” he said. “First is to leave F1, second is to build a brand new team like Toyota, and third is to buy a good team, like Sauber. Possibility number three is for me, no surprise. I have already heard rumours from the UK, stating that BMW is in talks with Sauber.” Such a move would cost BMW 60 million Euros.
