According to reports in the Sunday Mirror, Ferrari’s former technical director, Ross Brawn, who recently hinted at a return to the Scuderia next season, but not in his former role, may actually end up at McLaren instead.
Brawn, who designed every car Michael Schumacher ever raced to world victory in, twice at Benetton and five times with Ferrari, is currently on a sabbatical, however he stated recently that he would return to the sport, but needed a new challenge.
The Mirror is now claiming that the new challenge will come as a highly paid consultancy position in McLaren, meaning that he could return to his English base and take over where Adrian Newey left off before defecting to Red Bull.
"Ross has done it all and seen it all in F1," an F1 source told the British publication. "What he is looking for is something different, something that gets the creative juices going again. What McLaren have that few others enjoy is a variety of projects that might tempt Ross."
If he takes the role, the 52 year old would not be on the front line as he was with Ferrari, but rather working on design away from the racetrack. |
