Brazilian GP: FP2 – Alonso tops session two

Renault driver Fernando Alonso finished the second ninety minute free practice session at the top of the timesheets here at the Interlagos circuit this afternoon to finish ahead of Ferrari’s Felipe Massa and toytoa’s Jarno Trulli. Kimi Raikkonen was fourth followed by Mark Webber, Sebastien Vettel, Nelson Piquet and Nico osberg rounding out the top eight. Lewis Hamilton meanwhile could only muster ninth.

Rain affected this session as well but not immediately as drivers continued to deal with the somewhat uncharacteristic chilly weather. Sebastien Vettel opened the proceedings with his first time just two minutes in, however, Heikki Kovalainen was the first of the big boys to venture out, ten minutes in, Ferrari’s Felipe Massa out soon afterwards.

Mark Webber goes wide at turn three, Timo Glock at turn four, both continue on. Soft tyres come into play about twenty minutes in when Nico Rosberg bolts to the top of the timesheets. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton is not having a great afternoon as yet, the McLaren driver only seventh after a notable lock up.

Rain hit the track twenty minutes in, but the surface isn’t immediately affected. Sebastien Bourdais spins off the track but gets back on track and continues on. Massa goes tops half an hour in but only for a few minutes before Jarno Trulli reclaims it. Mark Webber also has an off track moment and the rain comes down again.

Bourdais spins, but the top runners are waiting out the rain in their respective garages. The drizzle eases and Massa heads out and reclaims top spot. The top fifteen runners on the board are now separated by under a second with Fernando Alonso notably down the order.

Rain begins to fall again in the final ten minutes and Alonso takes to the top of the leaderboard int eh final minutes as Lewis Hamilton continues to struggle, a notable flat spot after yet another lock up into the Senna S. He finishes in ninth, half a second down on Alonso.
