Briatore seeking a million Euros in damages

It appears as if former Renault boss, Flavio Briatore, is seeking a million Euros in compensation from the FIA after he was shamed and disqualified from taking part in any FIA sanctioned event as a result of the race fixing scandal that plagued his Renault team earlier this season.

It was alleged that Briatore ordered his then driver, Nelson Piquet junior, who was not just a driver for the Renault team but one of the young racers whose racing career was managed by Briatore, to deliberately crash his car during the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix to allow his then teammate, Fernando Alonso, to gain an unfair advantage over his rivals.

According to a report in the Guardian, Briatore wants the lifetime ban handed down by the FIA, which includes being allowed to manage any drivers career, to be annulled as well as demanding a million Euros in compensation for the damage this situation has caused his reputation. Fellow banned Renault employee, Pat Symonds, is said to be joining him in the action that will take place in France’s High Court on the 24th of this month.

According to the Guardian, Briatore claim includes “the excessive and abusive power clearly exercised by both the World Council, in particular, and the FIA, in general" and "the breach by the World Council of the most basic rules of procedure and the rights to a fair trial" with the Italian believing that part of the outcome came from then President of the FIA, Max Mosley’s personal agenda against him.
