Button set for new Brawn deal

After almost being forced to sit on the sidelines this season after Honda decided not to continue with their Formula One experiment, Jenson Button is now in hot demand. In order to help new team owner Ross Brawn, Jenson abandoned his original 8 million pounds per season deal to a new five million smaller one year deal.

Now, after winning five of the first six races and putting the team in good stead to secure both championships in their debut season, it appears as if team bosses want to make sure no one else lures their star driver away and are now preparing to commit to a new long term future with him.

"Jenson's been with us a long time, and we've had failures and we've had successes. My objective, and our objective, is to have him for the rest of his career, and nothing's changed on that front,” Nick Fry explained to PA Sport. “It's mutual that he would like to stay with the team, and after five race wins, we should be able to get something together."

With his current winning form however, it would only make sense that Button would be expecting a payrise and as Fry explained, that shouldn’t be too much of a problem....

"I'm sure he and his manager are sitting there thinking his price is going up the whole time. But maybe the sponsorship for the team is going up too, so maybe we can afford it."
