Changes afoot at Williams

WilliamsF1 didn’t have the best of seasons, in fact 2006 was a disaster by their standards, with the Grove based squad only completing 1331 race laps out of a possible 2274, just 58.5 % of all race laps possible, and the lowest of all eleven team, even newcomers at Super Aguri! So, after the most disappointing season since 1988, they know things must change, and more than just the switch to Toyota power next year.

According to our spies in Brazil, the team has decided to alter their technical structure and for the past few months Ed Wood has been their new chief designer, bringing with him solid experience from Ferrari, Renault and Prodrive. Meanwhile, the aero department will be strengthened by John Tomlinson, an ex Renault man, and Amit Chakrabaty, an ex McLaren employee. Matt Morris will be in charge of the gearbox program while John Russel will become the new operations engineer.

As a consolation to such a poor season with just 16 finishes out of a possible 36, the team signed AT&T as their new title sponsor, amove that will see an influx of 25 million dollars a year for the next three seasons, while Phillips will add more money to the car. The Royal Bank of Scotland, Petrobas, Tata and Oris will stay but the team is still in negotiations with Fedex and Allianz and Budweiser will more than likely leave.
