Coulthard impressed by Klien

Red Bull Racing’s Christian Klien finished a sensational season for the Milton Keynes based team in 5th place at Shanghai upping the team’s tally to 34 points from 11 points scoring finishes, an excellent result for a private team. With the fourth fastest lap in the season finale Klien also underline that putting him into the second Red Bull seat alongside David Coulthard instead of Tonio Liuzzi was the right move.

Even a veteran racer such as Coulthard was impressed by the Austrian’s performances over the year, the Scot putting it down to the fact hat Christijan was a lot more comfortable in his surroundings this season in comparison to last year.

“If I am going to single out one driver for whom2005 was a watershed, it is my Red Bull teammate Christian Klien,” David told the Record. “His qualifying lap in Brazil - just one second behind the Renaults - was not by accident. He has felt comfortable in the team this year and that shows.”

So, instead of putting Liuzzi into the driver alongside David, the Italian racer will race in Red Bull’s newly acquired second team, Squadra Toro Rosso, formerly known as Minardi, alongside Scott Speed. The new team principal will be Franz Tost, while the technical director will be Gabriele Tredozi under the guidance of Gunther Steiner, who will supervise both projects while Mark Smith has been nominated as technical director at Red Bull Racing.
