With all the recent talk that the Donington circuit may not be ready for the first of their new contracted deal with Bernie Ecclestone to play host to the British Grand Prix, circuit boss Simon Gillett has confirmed that work on the track’s redevelopment will get underway in just over a month’s time.
There was a lot of speculation flying at the recent Silverstone event that the race could be back there next season instead of making its debut appearance at Donington, however after a lot of hard work and determination, the papers have been signed sealed a delivered to enable the work to begin in earnest, but not until after the British Moto event later next month.
"It's been a lot of hard work up until this point. It has been like pushing water uphill with a fork occasionally, but the team here are fantastic and we have got clarity of vision and the support of all the right people so here we are,” he told Eurosport.
"The pit and paddock was built over one winter and we are doing a similar kind of thing, just on a slightly larger scale. We were hoping to have started a bit earlier but as I've said we had a problem with our funding source at the time, that's put us back. We'll be resolving our funding by the end of July and then we will start putting forks in the ground on the first of August." |
