Double pole position for Ferrari at the Spa 24 Hours
The Ferrari 550 Maranello driven by Cappellari/Gollin/Bryner/Calderari has taken pole position for the Spa- Francorchamps 24 Hours (Belgium,) the seventh round of this season’s FIA GT championship. At the end of three qualifying sessions, two of them held at night, the BMS Scuderia Italia crew set the best time ahead of Van de Poele/Alzen/Bartels/Konrad (Saleen) and their team-mates, Bobbi/Gardel/Livio/De Castro in another 550 Maranello. Fourth and fifth on the starting grid are the Ferrari 575 GTC run by the G.P.C. Giesse team in the hands of Vosse/Salo/Babini/Peter and Bouvy/Defoumy/Naspetti/Morbidelli. The 575 GTC of Longin/Wendlinger/Mueller/Corthals (JMB Racing) also made it into the top ten, in eighth place. This model, developed by the Ferrari Corse Clienti department is running at the Belgian circuit with updates to the aerodynamics and suspension geometry, having taken top honours in the previous round in England, with JMB Racing’s crew of Wendlinger/Melo. The Ferrari 360 GTC, also prepared by the same department in Maranello managed to set the best time in the N-GT class. The G.P.C. Giesse Squadra Corse car, driven by Pescatori, De Simone and the Ferrari Maserati Group’s sports test driver, Andrea Bertolini heads the many Porsches entered in this category. The race in the Ardennes gets underway at 4 pm this afternoon.
