FOM supremo Bernie Ecclestone has given his blessing to 2009 Formula One world champion, Jenson Button’s, switch to the Mercedes powered McLaren team where he will partner 2008 champion Lewis Hamilton in the upcoming 2010 season. Ecclestone, who admitted to being surprised by Button’s switch of teams, believes that the two Brits will world well together and unlike the Hamilton’ Alonso pairing, he doesn’t foresee any problems between the two.
“Button obviously knows what he’s doing and he must be satisfied with the arrangements he has got in hand. I must confess I was a little surprised to see it happening,” he admitted to BBC’s Radio 5. “I suppose he feels confident enough to take on Lewis. It’s a bit of a task to take on, that’s all. I think it will work. They’re both English guys and understand each other. I don’t see a problem at all.”
Both Hamilton and Button won their maiden title in the sport by finishing in fifth place at the Brazilian Grand Prix, both men were driving a car with the number 22 on the nose, both are British and racing for a British team and both were powered to glory by a Mercedes engine. Now the challenge will begin to see just who will come out on top when they are both given equal treatment and equal machinery in 2010. |
