Formula One could face court battles as the ten team bosses continue to disagree over the formulation of new rules for next season. Eddie Jordan wrote to each of his counterparts imploring them to reach agreement at a meeting during the Hungarian Grand prix, and both the Irishman and fellow team owner Paul Stoddart pleaded for a settlement.
But the teams are no closer to deciding crucial issues and are fast approaching a September 6 deadline, which has been set by the governing body, the FIA, who say they will impose their plans for 2005 if no alternatives are forthcoming.
Some teams insist that their agreement with the FIA is a legal document and will resist in court a wipe-out of that rule book while engine manufacturers BMW and Mercedes are ready to seek legal advice in resisting the proposed move from three-litre V10s to 2.8-litre V8s.
