Not only did Michelin secure pole position with Jarno Trulli and the race win with Kimi Raikkonen in last weekend’s Belgium Grand Prix at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, the Flying Finn’s MP4-19B also recorded the fastest lap of the race, on the penultimate lap, four tenths of a second faster than newly crowned seven time world champion, Michael Schumacher.
The two Ferrari drivers were right up at the top, with Michael setting the second fastest lap, one and a half tenths faster than his Brazilian teammate Rubens Barrichello. The two Renaults were next with the FW26 of Juan Pablo Montoya sixth quickest, ahead of the second McLaren of David Coulthard.
Due to the fact that four drivers were eliminated on the opening lap, only sixteen lap times were noted, Nick Heidfeld’s Jordan EJ14 the slowest of all, well over five seconds off the leading pace.
