FIA Confirms: Only 12 teams for 2010

After weeks of speculation that the USF1 team will not be taking part in the upcoming 2010 Formula One world championship season, the sport’s governing body has now confirmed that the Charlotte based squad will not be on the grid this year.

“The USF1 Team have indicated that they will not be in a position to participate in the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship,” the FIA said in a statement.

However, while it was thought that the Stefan grand prix team may be able to take over the empty pit garage and complete the thirteen team line up, the FIA have put an end to any hopes that the Serbian team may have had.

“Having considered the various options, the FIA confirms that it is not possible for a replacement team to be entered for the Championship at this late stage.”

So what will happen next year? Will USF1 appear for 2011 or will it be Stefan? At this stage we can only wait as the in the coming days the FIA will announce details of a new selection process to identify the candidates to fill any vacancies existing at the start of next season.
