Gearbox woes for Williams
BMW WIlliamsF1 drivers Mark Webber and Antonio Pizzonia continued testing for the Grove based squad at the Barcelona circuit on Friday the two men focusing on development work ahead of the upcoming 2005 championship season. Mark continued his familiarization with the team while managing to clock up further mileage in the FW26. The Australian also worked on chassis development in the morning before switching over to Michelin tyre tests in the afternoon. He completed a total of 101 laps for the day to record a best time of 1:15.172. Meanwhile, test driver Antonio Pizzonia conducted traction control testing, but unfortunately his day didn’t run smoothly and he was hampered by gearbox problems. He set a best overall time of 1:15.513 minutes and completed just 36 laps. "We’ve had another productive day today at Barcelona. Mark continued on his learning curve in the FW26, working on chassis set-up and tyre testing with Michelin,” said Tim Newton. “By the end of the day, he had completed an impressive 101 laps and set the second quickest time of the session behind Zonta. Antonio continued brake work and systems checks on the interim car but was hindered by gearbox problems. Mark will complete the team’s program tomorrow with a wet test for Michelin.“
