Spa Francorchamps is renowned for its unpredictability, as shown in Force India’s Giancarlo Fisichella securing the team’s maiden pole position yesterday, however, while there is jubilation on one side, there is disaster lurking close by as shown in the GP2 series soon after Formula One was done for the day.
Before the first GP2 race of the weekend, won by Ocean Racing Technologies Alvaro Parente, got underway, there was a freak accident in pit lane that left 57 year old Trident racing mechanic Vasco Rossi in hospital in a drug induced coma.
It appears that Ricardo Teixeira’s car flicked up a cable during its trip down pit lane which in turn caught on a wheel gun that came crashing down on Rossi’s head. While initial reports are encouraging, Rossi will be kept in a coma for the next three days. |
