With one race following another with incessant frequency in this long Formula 1 season, sometimes it can be hard to remember which race you are at, with most of the paddocks resembling one another.
On Thursday at Hockenheim one could have been forgiven for thinking we were actually at the German Grand Prix’s other home, the Nurburgring, seeing that the opening day of the meeting had been characterised by non-stop rain and the occasional bolt of lightning and the crash of thunder, more typical of the Eifel mountains.
Adding to the confusion is the fact this comes on the back of a beautifully hot and sunny Silverstone.
Meanwhile, inside the Scuderia Toro Rosso garage, it was business as usual, with Sebastien Buemi being particularly busy, fine tuning adjustments he made to his driving seat in the factory last week.
“It is possible to be comfortable, even in an extreme environment like the cockpit of a Formula 1 car,” said the Swiss driver. “I would say that, throughout the year, you make small adjustments until you find the optimum driving position. I like to sit reasonably high in the car, but in recent races, I felt my head was slightly tipped forward, which is why we have made changes again.”
