Under sunny conditions here at the Hungaroring this morning, Red Bull racer Mark Webber took the honours ahead of teammate Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso. Robert Kubica Lewis Hamilton, Vitaly Petrov, Nico Rosberg, Jenson Button and Nico Hulkenberg round out the top ten.
Track temperature was at a warm 32 degrees in Budapest and drivers were quick to take to the track for their first installation laps of the day. Within the opening ten minutes all drivers had completed one lap and returned to their respective pit boxes ahead if their first timed runs.
Force India has opted not to run their version of the blown diffuser here this weekend after less than impressive performances in Friday practice while due to the lack of long straights here, Ferrari has opted not to use their F Duct system.
Fifteen minutes in and Di Grassi sets the opening time of the day, the Virgin racer quickly followed across the line by Yamamoto but it takes another five minutes or so for the session to fully come to life and by the time the session reaches the halfway mark, the two Red Bulls are back at the top of the leaderboard with Lewis Hamilton over a second off the pace in third.
Fernando Alonso begins his first real charge of the morning and takes third from Hamilton but the McLaren driver fights backs and reclaims the position with teammate Jenson Button soon moving into fourth. Alonso responds once again and retakes third.
Button is on a good lap and takes P4 from his teammate while Bruno Senna spins in the penultimate corner. Robert Kubica moves up to split the two McLaren runners in fifth while Webber puts in a flyer to take P1 from his teammate by over three tenths of a second.
Vettel is in the garage with Red Bull mechanics looking at his front wing while Tonio Liuzzi is also having driveshaft issue.
The session comes to a close and Webber stays on top.
