I’d welcome Jenson as a teammate says Hamilton

Even though it seems highly unlikely that it will eventuate, McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton wouldn’t object to having fellow Brit Jenson Button, join the Woking based squad in 2010. Late last week speculation intensified that the new 21009 Formula One champions could very well end up partnering the 2008 champion at McLaren after salary talks stalled with Brawn GP.

‘I’d welcome Jenson as my teammate,” he told the Daily Mail. “He’s a level-headed and very committed guy. He earned the world championship and he’s done a great job over the years. I couldn’t be happier for him. He will be a tough competitor next year — whether at Brawn or McLaren.’

However, it would appear as if Formula One’s dream team won’t happen with Brawn and Button coming closer to a deal over the weekend. So, who will partner Lewis at Woking? The outgoing champion really doesn’t mind who it is, but there are some prerequisites....

‘I don’t mind who comes to the team as long as they come in peace and bring peace and want to be productive and move the team forward.’

Now, with the season finale just days away, Lewis is looking forward to next year’s fight where he hopes to regain his crown.....

‘I’m looking forward to next year’s new McLaren. I don’t think the team have had a driver who is pushing them as I am. I’m meticulous with everything. It’s all about getting the new car to be the best, the lightest and fastest. I have always said I have no desire to be known as a one-time champion. The love for winning never stops. Of course, Jenson is going to be a tough competitor again next year, but all I hope is that I have a chance to actually race with him from the start of the year, not from the halfway point, as happened this season. It would be awesome, insane.’
