Former co owner of Scuderia Toro Rosso, Gerhard Berger, has revealed the real reasons behind the selling of his shares in the team back to Red Bull Chief Dietrich Mateschitz, the former F1 racer claiming that due to the new rules coming into force next season and Red Bull’s main focus being on their primary team, STR would have little chance of improving.
"The new rules leave no room for improvement for a small team as STR," Berger told Autosport. "Also, Dietrich's interest will focus on Red Bull Racing, therefore the support for STR will become smaller and prevent the team from improving further from sixth. I don't want to decline, that is not in my nature."
Just what Berger will do now is open for discussion with insiders in pitlane hoping he will remain in the sport in some capacity. His involvement in Toro Rosso helped bring the tiny team to victory lane prior to the parent team, an accomplishment that is admired greatly by all concerned. |
