FOM Chief Bernie Ecclestone is refusing to allow his Formula One empire to crumble after putting so much of his life into building the championship into what it is now, the seventy eight year old supremo insisting that the problems facing the sport could be easily remedied, if allowed....
"I have given 35 years of my life and more to Formula One,” he told the Times. “My marriage broke up because of Formula One, so I am sure as hell not going to let things disintegrate over what is, in the end, basically nothing. If you analyse the problems, there aren't any that can't be easily solved."
The Formula One Teams Association, which is carrying a lot of support from fans worldwide, issued a statement on Thursday night British time that they were going to form their own championship and break away from F1 as we know it due to an inability to resolve certain issues with the FIA. Since then the FIA has threatened, and withdrawn legal action but Ecclestone is convinced that if the new series did actually go ahead, the legalities would only rip both series’ apart. "If that started, everybody would be suing everybody else and there would be no other series,” he added, claiming that there is only one thing left for him to really do... “I know full well I have to keep Formula One on the road." |
