Scuderia Toro Rosso recently confirmed that Sebastien Buemi would be racing for them in the upcoming 2009 Formula one championship season, a move fully expected by the Formula One world for some time now.
This will be the young Swiss racer’s debut season in the sport, despite undergoing testing duties for sister team, Red Bull Racing over the past season. While it is normally the GP2 champion that makes the step up, Buemi was chosen as a replacement for Sebastian Vettel for various reasons, and David Coulthard, who worked with him over the past twelve months, believes it was a good choice.
“I think Formula 1 is a big challenge for him because it is a different pressure, a different dynamic – even if you’ve had a lot of success in different formulas,” he told ITV. “I believe that the team should be well placed, they’re well established now.”
“They’ll hopefully have a good car from Red Bull Technology and he has the benefit of the likes of me on board to help him and he can tap into my knowledge and experience of grand prix racing. So I think it’s a great opportunity for his rookie year, maybe not quite as strong as for a McLaren or Ferrari type rookie year opportunity – but that still remains to be seen, to see who will make the best use of the regulations.” |
