A few hours after qualifying in Hungary, RenaultF1 racer Fernando Alonso was looking relaxed. 6th place on the grid was not exactly what he had hoped for, but that’s no reason to be pessimistic. What’s more, his championship rival is not starting from pole position either, and the Finn starts just two spots ahead of him and he won’t have an easy race either.
For Fernando, the main thing is to track Kimi Raikkonen’s race.
“We are not in the best position,” admitted the Spaniard. “We may have a different strategy to some other cars, but it will be hard to make the most of it because of the cars in front of us. But I am ready to take some risks – there is not point being cautious from P6. So I will be going for it, and I might even try to pass Kimi at the start. The first two corners will be very important: if I can’t get past the McLaren, I will need to be right behind him, without anybody between us.”
The key factor will be to get past Trulli’s Toyota to avoid getting stuck in the pack.
Whatever else, Fernando is certainly not planning on a boring race today.
“I would be pretty happy for Schumacher to win,” concluded the Spaniard with a mischievous smile. In effect, it would stop Kimi taking maximum points from the weekend!
