Over the course of the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend there was talk that Bernie Ecclestone was looking for a way to return the Formula One championship to American shores, admitting to the Guardian that while Indianapolis was the best place to host it, it's all the ‘wrong crowd and the wrong people’ that caused it from working the last time they went there and while they would like to return there would have to be ‘a big change round.’
Indianapolis officials have responded to Ecclestone stating in the business journal that they have never given up on having the pinnacle of Motorsports return to their venue....
"We continue to have dialogue with Formula One, and we've long maintained we're interested in hosting their events,” IMS spokesperson Chris Schwartz was quoted as saying added that he is not sure what to make of Ecclestone’s comments about the ‘wrong crowd’
"I can tell you that the crowds were energetic; they were certainly international.”
While the return of Formula One is on their list, Schwartz did admit that organizing a race for the 2011 season, the 100th running of the Indy 500, may be asking too much. |
