With Austin Texas given the go ahead to host the next Formula One race in America, sometime in the 2012 Championship season, the previous venue to witness the power of Formula One was the famous Indianapolis Speedway, has stated that they are still the right choice to host a Formula One Grand Prix.
"We're proud that we had among the largest crowds in Formula One then and now. Certainly Indianapolis is the right place for Formula One in the United Sates and if and when they express an interest here again, which could happen, we're ready to talk if we can find a business arrangement that makes sense for both parties,” said Fred Nation, IMS spokesman.
While they knew that FOM chief Bernie Ecclestone was eager to bring the series back to the United States, they were also surprised that he chose Austin Texas as the right place to bring it to for the next ten years.
"It's not a surprise that Formula One is returning to the United States because Mr. Ecclestone made it clear because of the interest teams sponsors and manufacturers to be back in the world's largest market. That Formula One expressed any interest Austin was a surprise. It was a surprise to us. Austin is not particularly known as an auto racing market."
Indianapolis last hosted the event in 2007. |
