Jacques proved I was right says Trulli
1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve finished a distant 11th in his comeback race in China last weekend, with some of his many critics claiming that the man he replaced, Jarno Trulli, could have done a lot better job. Trulli on the other hand, looks at the Canadian driver’s failure to finish in the points as proof that it was the car and not his driving skills that saw him finish out of the points for the last handful of races before his dismissal.

"I saw myself in Jacques, a driver struggling with difficulties, even though he was returning in F1 after a long time off and nothing more could be asked of him.” Jarno told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

Jarno also thanked Jacques for being honest about the issues he was experiencing with the car and not sugar coating the situation.

"I must thank Villeneuve for his honesty as he could have said that he drove an exceptional car, but instead he said nothing but what I've been saying for a long time. "

With two races remaining in the season, Renault need to achieve the best possible results from both cars if they want to reclaim second place from the British American Racing team and Jarno doesn’t feel any responsibility whatsoever for the predicament they find themselves in.

"I have no responsibility if the second place in the Constructors' Championship is now difficult for them to obtain," he added.
