In hot and sunny conditions, Williams driver Alex Wurz topped the times on the final day of testing here at the Jerez circuit ahead of the BMW powered Sauber of Robert Kubica. Wurz completed a total of 87 laps to finish a fraction of a second quicker…
"For the last day in Jerez, Alex finalized the necessary set-up preparations ahead of next weekend’s race in Hungary and set the fastest time of the session with a 1:19.962,” said test team manager, Dickie Stanford. “The boys have also done a great job today. Despite a number of scheduled changes, they managed to keep the car out on track for nearly 90 laps. Overall the test has been really positive, the team have worked through an intensive program and done extremely well to finish everything on time.”
Meanwhile, the BMW team finished its two day test an hour before the end of the day’s running, having completed the entire scheduled program. The work for Thursday included lots of set-up for the forthcoming races, which sent the team in an interesting direction. The team also continued working on systems settings, which confirmed some of the findings from Wednesday. The early finish was due to the completion of the engine mileage and this performed flawlessly. The total distance covered by Robert Kubica over the two days was 863 kilometres.
Third fastest was McLaren tester Pedro de la Rosa who Pedro returned to testing duties today, as the team completed its on track programme prior to the August break. Pedro’s work focused on continued Hungarian Grand Prix set-up and more general aerodynamic development.
Rubens Barrichello was fourth ahead of ART GP2 driver Sebastien Buemi who was testing for Red Bull Racing who was fifth, Jarno Trulli sixth, Renault’s Heikki Kovalainen seventh and Super Aguri’s Takuma Sato eighth and last.
