Just when you thought it was all over...

While FOTA was revelling in their recent ‘victory’ that sees Max Mosley’s proposed budget cap thrown on the scrap heap along with other various new regulation changes aimed at the 2010 Formula One championship, the current FIA President has announced that he may withdraw his resignation from the sport’s governing body.

It appears as if Mosley has written to Luca di Montezemolo demanding an apology after the Ferrari President and other FOTA members made comments to the media claiming that they had forced Mosley to step down.

"If you wish the agreement we made to have any chance of survival, you and FOTA must immediately rectify your actions," Reuters quote Mosley as writing. "You must correct the false statements which have been made and make no further such statements. You yourself must issue a suitable correction and apology at your press conference this afternoon."

No such statement has been forthcoming as yet, however Di Montezemolo did acknowledge that Mosley was planning on leaving and thanked him for his work over the years in making F1 a safer sport. Whether or not this will appease the FIA President is yet to be seen, but if not, then to make good on his threat, the deal reached with FOTA on Wednesday is in essence, will be torn up.

“I now consider my options open,” he added. “At least until October, I am president of the FIA with the full authority of that office. After that it is the FIA member clubs, not you or FOTA, who will decide on the future leadership of the FIA."

The saga continues.....
