Unless a new bid backed by British champion Nigel Mansell is successful in purchasing the Jaguar Racing team in the coming days, Christian Klien’s days as an F1 driver are over, for now at least.
The young Austrian completed his rookie season with the team this year and in Brazil, the season finale, there were a few misty eyes when he left the pit lane after his final pit-stop and the entire team stood outside the garage and waved him goodbye, however he is hoping it won’t be the end of his career, even if it means taking a step back to a test driver role.
"As long as there's a race seat available, I'll be chasing it," he said in Autosport. "But if everything is full you also have to look at the possibility of being third driver for a bigger team. A testing role in a top team is a good solution for a driver with my experience, so we will be looking at that too. We are talking to a couple of teams and waiting to see what happens with Jaguar Racing now. I think there will be a lot going on in the next couple of weeks."
