Leaks out of Ferrari control says Todt

There has been a lot of noise in the press this past week in regard to the affidavit given to Ferrari by McLaren’s Mike Coughlan, with information being leaked in regard to its confidential contents. McLaren team boss Ron Dennis is far from happy about the insinuations given to the media that several of his high powered employees have been implicated in the spy affair and insists that the situation will be cleared up in their favour in court later this week.

Speaking after Sunday’s race at the Nurburgring, Ferrari team Principal Jean Todt summarised the Maranello based team’s ongoing legal action against their former employee Nigel Stepney, who is also implicated heavily in the situation and McLaren's chief designer Mike Coughlan, but assured Dennis that it wasn’t Ferrari who leaked the information.

"We have a penal case ongoing in Italy against Nigel Stepney and we have a civil case in UK against Mike Coughlan,” he said. “"There is one hearing organised by the FIA on the 26th. At this stage, as I said two weeks ago, we cannot comment on it. Unfortunately it has been leaked too much in the press over the last days but it's out of our control. The more people who are aware, the more opportunity you have to have leaks. We just have to follow the procedures which are in process."

Todt did explain that Ferrari would be represented, however, he didn't confirm whether they would be offering evidence against McLaren, but closed by saying that "we may comment after the hearing."
