Let the champagne flow!

It’s been a long time coming but Red Bull Racing has finally returned to the podium, the first time since last year in Monaco. Back then it was David Coulthard and this time it was Mark Webber who got to spray the champagne. For their Aussie driver this was his second ever podium, after finishing third, also in Monaco, back in 200 and to make it a day to remember for everyone, David Coulthard finished fifth, equalling his Barcelona performance earlier in the year.

As Webber crossed the line, the sound system in the Energy Station started pumping out “We Are The Champions” which might be just a bit premature, but it captured the mood; a mood as much one of relief as one of joy. The year so far has shown that RB3 is a quick car but it has also been a fragile one, so getting both of them to the chequered flag proves that this time at least, reliability was not a problem.

All year long, the Milton Keynes based squad have said our target for the season is to finish at least fifth in the Constructors’ championship and today’s ten points put up to sixth place, ahead of oyota and just two behind Williams.

The team naturally celebrated this great day in the Eifel mountains and both drivers were met with huge cheers when they got back to the Energy Station and the champagne, for so long in the fridge, could finally flow.

“This is the first time in ages that we have used the champagne glasses for their proper purpose. Recently they have just been used to hold chocolate mousse!” said a member of the catering crew.

With David and Mark there was the obligatory photo call and with everyone cheering him on and encouraging him, DC poured a huge glass of champagne over his team-ate and they ended up rolling around on the ground in the paddock!
