Ferrari driver Felipe Massa was honoured by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva after he became the first Brazilian driver to win his home grand prix since the late Ayrton Senna back in 1993 by crossing the finish line ahead of Fernando Alonso in last Sunday’s Brazilian Grand Prix.
Apart from being the first local victor in thirteen years, Felipe is also one of a very elite club as he is just one of four Brazilian drivers to do so, adding his name to those of Ayrton Senna, Emerson Fittipaldi and Nelson Piquet.
Felipe was awarded with the ‘Sports Merit Orders Medal’ for his act of ‘international relevance’, the ceremony taking place at the Congonhas Airport in Sao Paulo. Massa was thrilled by the honour and after accepting the medal, he presented the President with a Ferrari cap. |
