According to reports in the British press, 2009 Formula One world champion Jenson Button, could join 2008 champion, Lewis Hamilton at the Mercedes powered McLaren team for the upcoming 2010 championship season.
"Sponsors Vodafone would be very keen on the idea,” a source told the Sun. "Just think of the publicity of the top two British drivers of their age going wheel-to-wheel for the title."
While current team Brawn Grand Prix stalls on contract negotiations with the star driver with Button rumoured to be requesting an added 5 million pounds, the same amount he sliced from his contracted deal a year earlier in order to help the team get on its feet this season, the move to Woking could end up being one of the most spectacular driver moves this season.
Mercedes are currently poised to take a seventy percent stake in Brawn but if McLaren secure Button’s services to have an all championship winning team, they may think twice before cooling their interest in the Woking based team as originally intended. |
