Even though the Mercedes grand Prix team will be running a new version of their 2010 contender at the upcoming Spanish Grnd prix, consisting of a new aero package and a longer wheelbase, the Brackley based squad has confirmed that the successful McLaren F duct system may or may not be part of the upgrade.
At the recent Chinese grand prix, the team were running their own version of the system in the form of a simpler conception called a ‘blown’ wing because according to team boss Ross Brawn, the McLaren system is far too complicated.....
"McLaren's system, which is driver operated, is quite complicated to get to work properly," he was quoted as saying in Autosport. "McLaren conceived that car to accommodate the system, and it is not so easy to put it onto cars.”
“What we had in China was a simple, passive system. It is not driver operated, so it is not as effective as the McLaren system. We are still working on a proper system that we will have at Barcelona or Istanbul. It is complicated to get to work properly, but our aerodynamicists are working on it." |
