According to reports in Autosport, former double world champion and current DTM racer, Mika Hakkinen, will be taking part in an upcoming test for the McLaren Formula One team in Spain. While they were not certain which of the three tests being conducted before Christmas Mika would be present at, the speculation is that the Finn could be paying a visit to the Circuit de Catalunya as soon as today, but it still remains to be seen if he will actually climb into the cockpit or just observe.
The speculation comes from the former F1 champion’s appearance in the season ending Brazilian Grand Prix and comments from team boss Ron Dennis that his former driver was eager to help with their development program and has recently been to Woking and spent time in the simulator.
"He is keen to understand what he can and can't contribute to our program. He has spent quite a few hours in our simulator,” Ron Dennis confirmed. “Initially that was because he wanted to see how real the experience was, how the car felt and what is was like to drive a Grand Prix car using advanced simulation technology which is what I think we have. And it will be followed up by more support."
Mika has also confirmed that he would be happy to help the team in any way he could, however as for racing, his sights are still firmly set on another season in DTM. |
