Despite speculation to the contrary, the BMW WilliamsF1 team will not be switching from Michelin to Bridgestone tyres for the 2005 Formula One championship season, our spies in Brazil confirmed. For one, their links to the French based engine supplier are too close and for two, they have a contract until the end of 2005.
However, on another note, speculation is abound that the Panasonic Toyota Racing has asked for permission to end their Michelin contract one year earlier than planned in order to make the switch to Bridgestone tyres, but as yet there is no confirmation on this move one way or the other.
Meanwhile, Peter Sauber wants to go the other way, taking his Sauber Petronas squad from Bridgestone to Michelin. This is a possibility, despite his close links to Bridgestone shod Ferrari, because in the event that the Jaguar Racing team survives, they may well lose their Michelin support as there is said to be clause in the contract that it is not valid under different ownership.
