Piquet close to Force India deal

With Juan Pablo Montoya defecting from Formula One to NASCAR years ago and Jarno Trulli currently over in the States preparing for a test in the series on Wednesday, it now appears as if former Renault driver, Nelson Piquet junior is also interested in the American tin top series after undergoing a test in the Truck Series recently.

Present at last weekend’s Phoenix event, the man behind this year’s crashgate scandal who blew the whistle on Renault boss and manager, Flavio Briatore, for ordering him to deliberately crash his Renault in the 2008 Singapore Grand prix in order to give then teammate, Fernando Alonso an unfair advantage over his rivals, Piquet junior revealed to Autosport that while he enjoyed the test and likes the feel of things in the US, he is close to making a deal with Force India for a return to F1 next season.

“I'm close to Force India at the moment but obviously this (NASCAR) is being very interesting for me, so I don't know,” he said. “I'm still in the process of deciding what I'm going to do. Maybe spend one more year in Europe before coming here; it's still all up in the air.”
