F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has classified the recent racial attack on McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton as a one off occurrence made by people that only want to cause trouble and have no real interest in either Formula One or Fernando Alonso.
Speaking to the BBC’s five live program, Ecclestone revealed that in his opinion there is no real need for the FIA’s new anti racism campaign and that no one should be giving the situation any attention as that is all the offenders really want….
“I don’t think it’s necessary,” he said when asked about the new Racing against Racism campaign. “What it does, all these things, it gives attention to the people that want attention. I think in Barcelona it was the group of people who caused the same trouble at the football. I don’t think they’re fans, I don’t think they’re anything; I don’t think they were supporting Alonso in particular. I think they just like to abuse people.” |
