Red Bull hoping for clarification

Over the course of the Australian grand prix weekend, certain allegations were made against the Red Bull Racing team amid concerns that they were using a sophisticated suspension system on their RB6’s.

The allegations came to light after it was noted by other teams that the cars were running very low during qualifying, as Mark Webber’s car bottomed out on several occasions. As the cars are not allowed to be touched after qualifying, concerns were raise3d as to how the cars could be so low in qualifying trim, but still be high enough to carry a full fuel load in the race without any illegal mechanical tweaks.

One suggestion was that the Milton Keynes based squad were doing something very clever, and possibly illegal under the FIA rules, that would see the possible use of gas filled dampers that would assist in pushing the car down in qualifying trim then by releasing pressure, allow the car to ride higher to account for the full fuel load.

Naturally Red Bull has denied that anything untoward is going on with their 2010 contender and would love to have full clarification from the FIA to prove everything was above board.

"McLaren has made a lot of comments recently, be it about our fuel tank size or the future of our drivers and now supposed systems on the car," team chief Christian Horner told Autosport. “Categorically we don't have anything like that on the car. It is down to them to speculate, but a clarification would be good for everybody."
