After finishing fifth and sixth in yesterday’s German Grand Prix, the RenaultF1 team have asked the sports governing body, the FIA, to allow them to use their controversial mass damper system at the forthcoming Hungarian Grand Prix due to the fact that the appeal on the stewards positive finding in Germany wont be heard until just prior to the Turkish GP in August.
"We are sort of asking, in view of the fact it (the appeal) can't be heard before the next race, whether they'll look at it slightly differently," Pat Symonds told Autosport.
Sunday’s 67 lap German Grand Prix proved to be the worst of the 2006 season to date for the French based squad after they opted to remove their mass damper system rather than run the risk of being disqualified when the FIA appeals the stewards decision to allow them in Sunday’s race. However, the team refuse to admit that this was the sole reason for their lack of pace with statements putting the majority of the blame solely at the feet of tyre partner, Michelin.
“We have not had the pace we would have wanted all weekend, and the tyre management in the race was even more difficult than anticipated with both drivers experiencing severe blistering at different points,” Symonds said. |
